On October 2nd the Roselle Sister Cities Association German Committee hosted three delegates from Laatzen, Germany.  Luisa Oyen, Patrick Mewes and Josie Rabehl from Laatzen International Friendship committee spent the week in Roselle.

We began with a potluck dinner held at Trinity Lutheran Church where most of us were able to meet face to face for the first time.  RSCAGC members brought food to share and the Laatzen contingent brought with them delicacies from the Hanover region.  Also in attendance was a Lake Park exchange student from Germany who coincidentally was staying with German Committee member Sandra Martyn during this time. It was a wonderful opportunity to welcome our guests and share a meal together. Great food and conversation were enjoyed by everyone.

Karen and Tom Ostrander from the German Committee, hosted Lusia and Sandra Martyn from the committee hosted Patrick and Josie for the week in their homes.  During that time, our guests visited downtown Chicago, Cantigny Park, shopping at Woodfield, a Lake Park Football game and a play and shared lunch and dinner at a number of Roselle and local dining establishments.  The week was capped off meeting Roselle village officials, visiting our public buildings and attending a Centennial dedication as well as the Founder’s Day Festival Centennial Celebration at Clauss Recreation Center.

A bonfire was enjoyed Saturday evening and then the week was closed out Sunday morning at Southern Café where our guest expressed their gratitude for the hospitality provided by the RSCAGC.  They also invited the RSCAGC members to visit their city in the coming year. We brainstormed different ideas where we could encourage more interaction between Laatzen and Roselle which we all hope will lead to establishing a Sister Cities agreement.
